THE DORAN BROTHERS

Doran Brothers News

April 23, 2017

Been a while since we've updated this page.  We had a great 2016, and 2017 is starting out even better. We've picked up a guitar player, Kevin Dubay, who is a wonderful addition to the band. Not only is he adding some really nice touches to our existing songs, he's also giving us the ability to present songs that we wouldn't have tried before adding him.  More importantly, Kevin has very quickly become a good friend.  We're very happy to have him with us.

Since our last update, we've added dates at Reds in Middleville, and been invited to play in the East Grand Rapids Summer Concert Series.  We've also picked up a couple of private events.  All of this is in addition to the venues already in our "rotation".  We're always looking for new and interesting places to play.

Go to our Performance Schedule page to check dates and times of our upcoming performances.  And check back from time to time for new events.

2016 is starting out with a bang.  A couple of fun performances at the Family Tavern and the Riverbend.  We're trying out a new venue on February 6 - Reds in Middleville. We've heard nothing but good things about Reds, and we're really looking forward to playing there. It's always fun to introduce the Doran Brother sound to a new audience at a new place.  Having said that, if you're already a friend of the Doran Brothers, make sure you come out for this one. We want to show Reds that the Doran Brothers crew knows how to have fun.  Go to our performance page for details.

Been a while since I've posted.  It was a great summer.  We took August off. Before that, we had a great time playing at 57 Brew Pub, Festival of the Arts, and Rock A Lot.  With the time off, we've added songs by the Beatles, Peter Townsend, Albert Hammond, Crosby Stills and Nash, Electric Light Orchestra, Brewer and Shipley and others.  This weekend we're headed to West Branch, the small northern Michigan town where we grew up, to play the reunion of Dan's 1975 graduating class.  The Doran Brothers haven't played West Branch since we left town almost 40 years ago to go on the road as Steel Satin.  Should be fun to see a lot of old friends again.  On October 10 we're playing in the afternoon to help the 57 Brew Pub celebrate their 3 year anniversary.  And this fall, look for us at the River Bend Bar for a couple dates.  Browse our performance webpage for details.

Check our performance schedule page for a more complete summary of upcoming performances, but there are a few we want to bring to your attention.  We're going to be at the 57 Brew Pub and Bistro in Greenville on May 30 and again on June 27.  That's out-of-doors on a deck - a perfect summer venue.  And we've been selected to play at Festival of the Arts again this year.  Look for us on the Clock Tower Stage at 1:00 on Sunday, June 7.  Last, but not least, we will be playing at the Rock-a-Lot festival in downtown Caledonia on July 11. Tentative start time is 8:00 p.m. (details on time to follow).  In past years, this has been a well-attended, fun event. We're looking forward to being a part of it.  You should make plans to be there.

It's lining up to be a great year for the Doran Brothers.  We've been asked back to play at a couple of our favorite watering holes.  And it looks like we'll be doing some special events this summer.  We're already scheduled to be in the line-up for the Rock-a-Lot festival in Caledonia on July 11.  And we've picked up a couple of return dates at 57 Brew Pub and Bistro in Greenville this summer.  Finally, stay tuned for the date and time of our Festival of the Arts appearance in early June.

Great day at Festival of the Arts today. The weather cooperated.  The sound engineer assigned to the Clock Tower Stage was quite good and very professional.  And we drew a nice crowd who showed their appreciation.  It really went about as well as it could have.  It looks like we'll get a few opportunities from today's performance, so keep your eyes out for additional gig announcements.

After a miss last year, and a little bit of confusion early this year, the Doran Brothers are in the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts lineup this year.   We'll play on the Clock Tower Stage (corner of Pearl and Ottawa) at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2014, for about an hour.

And we haven't put it on our gig schedule yet, but we've agreed to 5 additional dates for the Riverbend Bar and Grill this Fall and Winter.  It's nice to have a place close to home to play regularly.

Stay tuned for additional Rockford Brewing Company date announcements, and other performance announcements.

Our weekend at Rockford Brewing Company and the Riverbend Bar and Grill rocked (in a soft rock, acoustic kind of way).  At RBC (that's what I heard the cool kids calling Rockford Brewing Company), we filled most of the tables on a Thursday with family and friends of the band.  One table of regulars remarked that it was the biggest crowd they'd seen on a Thursday night all winter long.

The next night at the Riverbend, we were firing on all cylinders.  We played well and managed to have much of the crowd singing along with our songs.   Everybody, including the band, had a lot of fun.

We're talking to both venues about future dates, so keep an eye out for those.

And don't forget to check back about a possible Doran Brothers Band slot at this year's Festival of the Arts.

Been a while since we updated.   The party at the Eastern Avenue Hall went as well as it could have.  The second floor of the Hall was filled, and everyone had a great time.  It was great to see so many friends and familiar faces.  The Mainero clan was out in force.  And thanks Cinda Debolt for bringing your crew out.  You guys helped make the evening a fun one.

We're putting dates together for this year.  We're going to try to play Festival of the Arts this year.  Keep an eye out for an announcement.

June 29, 2013

Unfortunately, Festival of the Arts offered a time slot we couldn't accept.  We were looking forward to playing the Festival.  Maybe next year if we can work out the timing.

We've filled out our song list, and we're now accepting bookings.  Since our last update, we've added a little bit of country, and a few more classic rock tunes, all done in the laid-back, polished style of the Doran Brothers.  We're looking forward to sharing our sound with family, friends and anyone who appreciates rock and country done in the Doran Brothers style.

We're playing up in the Traverse City area for a private party in July.  Sorry.  Not open to the public.  But check back to this website for opportunities to hear the band.

The Doran Brothers, at least in this latest configuration, is a new band.  Dan, Dave, Sean and Bill have played together, over the years, in several bands.  Most of those bands included just 2 or 3 of the brothers.   However, The Doran Brothers band is the first time since 1980 that all four brothers are able to play together in the same group. It's something we've been trying to arrange for years, and it's great fun to finally be able to sing and play together again - made even better by the addition of Mark Mainero.  Mark is not a Doran, but he could have been.  Mark shares a love for music, family, friends and fun that makes us wonder whether he might have been separated at birth.

Rehearsals for The Doran Brothers  started in 2012. We're taking a different approach with this band.  This time around the focus is on easy listening, vocal intensive material - think Eagles, CSN&Y, Pure Pairie League, Zac Brown Band.
